A court marriage certificate is an official statement or declaration that confirms the marriage of two partners legally & they satisfy all the conditions of marriage. Eligibility Criteria For Marriage Registration - 

  1. Both the partners must be adults. The minimum age: Male - 21 years & Female - 18 years. 
  2.  At the time of marriage, both the partners must be sound mind & not suffering from any serious mental disorder.
  3. In the case of the previous relationship, either the spouse is dead or they have got the divorce certificate from the court.
  4. Mutual consent of both the partners is important as forcing or compelling someone for marriage is illegal.  



Documents Required For Marriage Registration

1. Proof Of Identity - Aadhar Card / PAN Card / Voter ID / Passport 


2.   Proof Of Birth - Class 10 Marksheet / Passport / Driving License


3.    Proof Of Address Or, Address Proof  - Aadhar Card / Driving License / Voter ID Card


4.     Passport size photographs  

Different Acts For Registration of marriage -

    1. Special Marriage Act, 1954 

Anyone can register their marriage irrespective of religion, caste, or gender. Generally, when both the partners belong to different religions, they can easily register their marriage under the Special Marriage Act. The consent of parents is necessary for the registration of marriage under this act.

     2.   Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 

When both the partners are followers & practitioners of the Hindu religion, they can easily register their marriage at the marriage registrar’s office after the solemnization of marriage according to Hindu Vedic Rituals. 

    3.  Indian Christian Marriage Act, 1872 

When both the partners are followers & practitioners of the Christian religion, they can easily register their marriage at the marriage registrar’s office after the solemnization of their marriage in church.
